TILING

Domestic and Commercial Properties

The use of a manufactured tile as a roofing material dates back to the very early days of civilisation. McKenzie and Flynn
Ltd are confident that they can achieve a superior roof finish with the vast majority, if not all, of the myriad of roof tiles
currently available.

The types of roof tiling can be divided into four main areas:

  • Plain Tiling
Which consists of essentially small flat tiles individually fixed to the roof timbers. Usually 265x165mm (10.4"x 6.5")
these tiles look similar to slates.

  • Pantiles
Usually representing a "wave like" appearance on the roof, pantiles are effectively lapped each side as well as top
and bottom. It is not unusual to find pantiles used in conjunction with three or four courses of plain tiles or slates
    at the eaves.

  • Interlocking Tiles
As the name suggests, these tiles are manufactured such that they lock into each other at each side and top and
bottom. Interlocking tiles are available from many manufacturers in a wide choice of profiles, colours and textures
and can be made from natural clay or lightweight concrete.

  • Reconstituted Slates
These are made from a variety of materials including fibre cement, lightweight concrete and crushed natural slate
in resin. Reconstituted slates are fixed to the roof in a similar fashion to natural slates and interlocking tiles. Their
use has grown in recent years and continues to do so.
McKenzie and Flynn Ltd are happy to discuss with clients their precise requirements regarding roof tiling and offer
advice on the most suitable tiles with regard to location, roof design and cost.

We have, over the years, gained experience in the use of a large number of different roof tiles available throughout the
UK and continue to enjoy the confidence of many tile manufacturers, some of which as listed below:
